Howard Ayo
Howard Ayo (PhD) is an expert with over 16 years in business and human rights and sustainable development. He has extensive experience with Ulster University, United Kingdom (researcher), United Nations Human Rights and International Rescue Committee in Uganda where he has been at the frontline of framing and shaping human rights discourse. His interests lie in supporting policy work on national action plans, enabling people centered corporate social responsibility and governance, and sustainable development.
Howard developed a unique, research-led framework for business and human rights, national action plans for Sub-Saharan Africa (2023). This research underpins the significant impact of business enterprises on human rights in developing countries and the role of national action plans as a measure for bringing about norms-consistent behaviours by stakeholders.
He has also participated has an expert adviser to the Government of Uganda, United Nations, academia, and civil society organisations thus leading to the adoption of Uganda’s first National Action Plan for Business and Human Rights (2021).
